2015 Malaghan Charity Golf Day a great success

Thank you for your support of the 2015 Malaghan Institute Auckland Charity Golf Tournament

The weather held off for us on the day and from the tournament we raised $33,680.  All funds raised will accelerate medical research at the Institute.

Our winners on the day were a new team from NZ Spring Water, captained by Paul Thompson. His team took away the wonderful Invivo Wines first prize and the prized ‘Microscope Trophy’.  Runner-up went to The Hugh Green Foundation Team captained by Luke Sullivan. The Hugh Green Foundation is long-time supporters of the golf day as well as the Malaghan Institute. Third place went to 2014 defending champions, Callagher & Co. lead by Peter Callagher.

The Calcutta was eagerly supported and a total prize pool of $3,295 was raised. Winning captain, Paul Thompson backed his own team and took home a very nice cash prize with 50% being donated back to the Malaghan Institute. A selection of photos can be found on this website.

To stage this golf tournament over 34 companies gave their support in several ways. This allows us to attract a large field of golfers and display a great prize table. We would also like to acknowledge our principal supporter The David Levene Foundation for their contribution. Sir David Levene was present on the day to see the prizes awarded to the winning teams.

Support of the Friends Charity Golf events held around New Zealand has contributed over $1.7 million to medical research. This support has made a large contribution to the cutting edge research that is currently being undertaken in the laboratories.

Recently the Institute patented a ground-breaking vaccine for asthma, which affects up to one in four New Zealand children. The vaccine is a novel way of dealing with allergies and potentially could be expanded to other diseases. Your support also helps fund the Institute’s clinical trial of a new vaccine for melanoma cancer.

Thank you again for your generous support and we welcome any feedback and recommendations to ensure that we deliver another successful day next year.

Kind Regards

Greg Shepherd
