PRESS RELEASE

18th February 2016

Hospice North Shore hosted another successful charity golf day at the North Shore Golf Club raising over $28,000. Event Managers, PaR nz Golfing Holidays announced the day was well supported by 34 x 18-hole and 9-hole corporate teams who enjoyed the 'Legends of Golf' theme. Main sponsors of the day included North Shore Golf Club, PaR nz Golfing Holidays, The Golf Warehouse, Hallertau Brewery and Intersea Seafoods. Over 50 companies, mainly from the North Shore also supported the day.

The forecast for the golf day a few days prior showed to expect thunder and lightning, strong winds and rain - not a good prospect. But on the day the sun came out in full force. Only a 30 minute heavy downpour at 3pm dampened spirits and sorted out the real golfers from those who preferred the 19th hole! A full list of teams, legends and scores by division is listed along with a selection of photos.

Winners on the day in the AUGUSTA Division were Takapuna North Rotary Team (Legend of Golf: Arnold Palmer) with a score of 113 points. Team captain was Evan Henning who has played in the Hospice Tournament for many years. This division hosted 18-hole teams of affiliated golfers scoring best 3 of 4 stableford points for a cumulative team score. Runners-up were Admirals Landing (Legend: Sergio Garcia) with 110 points and in third place was the Arnup Team (Legend: Ben Hogan) with 108 points. The best placing for the ladies teams was North Shore Golf Club captained by Wendy Storey (Legend: Karrie Webb) with 104 points.

Winners of the PEBBLE BEACH Division were the ANZ Bank (Legend: Nick Faldo) lead by local Richard Pilley. This 18-hole division hosted teams of affiliated and casual golfers, playing team Ambrose. The ANZ Bank winning score was an impressive 50.00 net. Runners-up were Fuji Xerox (Legend: Jordan Spieth) with a net score of 50.50 and in third place was Crombie Lockwood (Legend: Gary Player) with net 51.17.

There was a tie in the ST ANDREWS Division. This division hosted 9-hole teams who also enjoyed playing Ambrose. Vodafone 1 (Legend: Tom Watson) and Rothbury Insurance (Legend: Sir Bob Charles) both scored 21.00 net score on the day and was announced as joint winners.

Trophies were awarded in a separate mens and womens division for best individual stableford scores. Dorothy Wallace from Chamberlain Park GC won with 34 points and Peter Scott from Omaha Beach GC won the mens section with 41 points (easy game!)

The day included a guest celebrity appearance by Mark Richardson from ' The Crowd Goes Wild'. Mark played with one of the teams and showed why he could have easily been as good at golf as he was at cricket. Yes the guy can play!

During the post-match function, the golfers supported a great live and silent auction along with a major prize draw for a new I-Phone 6S sponsored by Vodafone.

Thank you again to all golfers, volunteers, sponsors, supporters on the day who contributed to the success of the day.

The Hospice North Shore Charity Golf Day will be back FRIDAY 17 February 2017.
