Note of thanks to Players

Thank you again for your support of the 2016 Malaghan Institute Auckland Charity Golf Tournament. The weather although changeable largely held off for us on the day. The players all enjoyed the new scoring format and attempt to win a new Lexus with a “hole in one challenge on the 17th hole”. From the tournament, we raised $24K from the auction and a total of just under $41K for the day.

Our winners with 91 points on the day were our Gold Sponsors, The David Levene Foundation, captained by Dave Tibby who has been playing in this tournament for many years.  His team took away the prized ‘Microscope Trophy’.  Runner-up with 90 points went to 2015 defending champions, Callagher & Co. led by Peter Callagher.  Third place with 88 points c/b to Douglas Pharmaceuticals, captained by Jonathan Evans.  The Hugh Green Foundation Team captained by John Green were fourth and the team from SBM Legal, led by Don Mackinnon were fifth, also scored 88 points. The winning ladies team on the day with 83 points was Lexus Team 2 with 'Chicks with Sticks' runner-up on 82 points.

Noted teams in the field this year were The Malaghan Originals lead by Jim Syme and Tip Top Ice Cream captained by Mark O'Callaghan who both participated in the first Malaghan Golf Day 21 years ago. In fact, Tip Top has played in all 21 events!

A selection of photos and Bruce Burton’s near hole in one video can be found on the website.

To stage this golf tournament over 42 companies gave their support in several ways. We would like to acknowledge our major sponsors, The David Levene Foundation, Tip Top Ice Cream and Lexus of Auckland City.  We also thank our hole sponsors New Caledonia Tourism, Kea Property Management, Inpro, Fliway International, Douglas Pharmaceuticals and Stellar Consulting.

Support of the Friends Charity events held around New Zealand has contributed over $1.7 million to medical research. This support has made a large contribution to the cutting edge research that is currently being undertaken in the laboratories.

Thank you again for your generous support and we welcome any feedback and recommendations to ensure that we deliver another successful day in 2017.
