Kyle Phillips was the architect – designing a course that wound round 2 x 9 hole loops, making use of the rolling fairways and offering generous landing areas for the big hitters. In designing Kingsbarns, Phillips looked to other famous links courses and in particular Royal Dornoch. Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of earth was moved and remodelled to create the ‘moonscape’ of Kingsbarns. Fellow golf architect Tom Doak has been quoted as saying, "…as a piece of construction work Kingsbarns is one of the best projects I’ve ever seen."
