2022 NZ Womens Senior Foursomes @ Mercury Bay

START DATE: 21 Nov 2022
END DATE: 24 Nov 2022
Mercury Bay GC, Whitianga
Tournament Entry NZ$180

One of the most popular foursomes events for senior women, the 2022 Golf New Zealand Women’s Senior Foursomes will be hosted by Mercury Bay Golf Club, a parkland style golf course set not far from the coast in the foothills of the popular tourist destination of Whitianga.

The town is located on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula on the coast of Mercury Bay. Its main beach – Buffalo Beach is named after HMS Buffalo, a Royal Navy ship which was wrecked during a storm while anchored in Mercury Bay. Her anchor can be seen at a monument at Buffalo Beach.

Whitianga has been continuously occupied for more than a thousand years since Māori explorer Kupe’s tribe settled there. Te Whitianga o Kupe is the original place name of the town, meaning Kupe's crossing place. Captain Cook also has history in the area having visited in 1769 to take shelter in the bay.

The New Zealand Women’s Senior Handicap Foursomes is managed under contract for Golf New Zealand,  by Denise Langdon of PaR nz Golfing Holidays. The format includes three days of handicap foursomes match play after 18 holes qualifying net. After qualifying, competitors are put into flights (of 16 pairs per division) which are seeded based on their net score. If inclement weather or for any other reason the event is disrupted the Championship committee may alter the format and the number of rounds played.
