The 2024 Sheraton Fiji Denarau Women’s Golf Classic
Monday 26 – Friday 30 August, 2024
And so, it begins – the 20th Denarau Women’s Golf Classic is underway at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, Nadi.
96 ladies from Australia and New Zealand, along with two local ladies; the very well- known Sulu Brook, past captain of the Denarau Golf Club, and Smugglers Cove owner Jenice Hinton in the field.
The tournament which started in 2003 with only 11 players regularly attracts +/- 100 players competing in a 3-day pairs event. Rounds are scored by 4-Ball-Better-Ball Stableford, Foursomes and a final round of combined stableford.
Today’s, Monday 26 August round is a fun Ambrose challenge where the players are mixed up for camaraderie and practice before the main event starts tomorrow.
The 2024 field includes representation of 40 different clubs across the 3 countries from as far away as Western Australia and New Zealand’s South Island.
50% of the field are new to the tournament, with 1/3 Australian. The youngest player is 47, the oldest turning 80 this year.
One player back to compete this year has played in every Denarau Women’s Golf Classic, Dale Malaghan who hails from Auckland’s Remuera Golf Club. A past winner Malaghan is joined by three other past champions competing this week; Joanne MacDonald (New Plymouth, NZ), Sherrill Jeeves (Whangarei, NZ) and Sally Ussher (Greenacres, NZ).
The tournament is owned and managed by PaR nz Golfing Holidays from New Zealand supported by the Sheraton Golf & Beach Resort and Tappoo.
