Welcome to Mora Wines!

With the 21st Millbrook Masters only weeks away, PaR nz Golfing Holidays is delighted to welcome MORA to our valued stable of sponsors.

Here's their story:

New premium Central Otago wine brand – Mora – launched November 1, 2022. So far 10 great months of trading!

The super-premium wine label is owned by well-known South Island family business, the Skeggs Group, which also produces the internationally successful RUA brand. The Mora wine label includes the small production Single Site Series, a Central Otago range including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc, and Methode Traditionelle. All wines are made from Mora’s 90 hectares of established vineyards in the Bannockburn and Pisa sub-regions of Central Otago.

The launch of Mora follows the recent sale of the Akarua brand by the Skeggs Group, to French- based Edmond de Rothschild Heritage (EDRH).

The Skeggs Group has a long history in the Central Otago wine community, founding the award- winning Akarua wine brand in 1996. Skeggs Group managing director David Skeggs says the family-owned company is delighted to bring the exquisite new direct-to-consumer wine brand to the market.

“With the recent sale of Akarua it has given us the opportunity to hone our long-term vision and strategy. With more than 25 years of experience in winemaking and viticulture, we are confident that our new brand Mora will be a welcome addition to the Central Otago wine scene,” he says. “We are excited to launch Mora alongside our much-loved RUA wine label.”

The brand name is taken from the Latin word ‘mora’, meaning to linger, or to take pause, Mora general manager Kathryn Pettit explains. “One of our most treasured possessions in life is time. We believe it’s important to slow down and enjoy time with friends and family.

The Mora experiences, be it tasting the wines themselves or dining at the restaurant are aimed at elevating those treasured interludes.”

The wine will be sold exclusively through the re-branded Mora Wines & Artisan Kitchen at Lake Hayes (formerly Akarua Wines & Kitchen By Artisan), via the Mora website and a new Mora Wine Club. The RUA brand will continue to be distributed nationally through Hancocks Wine, Spirit and Beer Merchants and sold nationwide through grocery and retail as well as through restaurants.

“We are looking forward to introducing Mora to our customers over the summer months. Mora Wines & Artisan Kitchen will be the perfect place to experience the wines either in the cellar door or in our restaurant,” Pettit adds.
